The “Re_Flex Patterning” workshop will be conducted at İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture between 6-8th May 2013. The workshop is led by Tuğrul Yazar and Fulya Akipek, from the İstanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Architecture.

Integrating digital media with the material world reveals emergent performances. Parametric modeling techniques encourage designers to study more on the envelopes of potentials instead of singular artifacts. Working with these envelopes tells a design cycle that entails the determination of relations and within this relational framework, dynamics keep the design process active and variable. In the series of workshops titled “Infections”, static and regular patterns of the built environment are considered “host bodies”. Their contextual potentials are revealed and digital technologies start the becoming of these bodies within the concept of infection. In the second workshop titled “Re_Flex Patterning”, an atrium is considered the host body. It will be studied beyond its gridal order, generating re-flex patterns as the initial step in the revealing of it’s potential. Throughout the workshop, Grasshopper will be used as a tool for parametric modeling and digital deformation techniques, while physical form-finding will be studied on a composite material.

Re_Fleks Örüntüleme atölyesi, 6-8 Mayıs 2013 tarihleri arasında İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi Mühendislik ve Mimarlık Fakültesi’nde gerçekleştirilecektir. Atölye yürütücüleri İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Mimarlık Fakültesi öğretim üyeleri Tuğrul Yazar ve Fulya Akipek’tir.

Materyal dünya, dijital ortamın olanaklarıyla entegre edildiğinde beklenmedik performanslar açığa çıkabilir. Parametrik modelleme teknikleri, tasarımcıya tekil ürünün ötesinde olasılık setlerinin araştırılabileceği bir ortam sağlar. Bu tür olasılık setleriyle çalışmak, tasarım döngüsünde ilişkilerin tanımlanmasını gerektirir ve dinamikler bu ilişkiler çerçevesinde tasarımı sürekli aktif ve değişken kılar. “Enfeksiyon” atölyelerinde, mevcut bir çevrede bulunan katı ve düzenli örüntülere sahip “bedenler”seçilir, bu bedenlerin bağlamla ilişkilerindeki potansiyeller açığa çıkarılmaya çalışılır ve  dijital teknolojiler, enfeksiyon konseptinde bu bedenlerin dönüşümünü başlatır. Atölye serisinin ikincisi olan “Re_fleks Örüntüleme” atölyesinde , beden olarak seçilen galeri boşluğu, onu biçimlendiren gridal düzenlerin ötesindeki potansiyelleriyle incelenecek ve re-fleks örüntü bu boşluğun potansiyelini açığa çıkarmak için dönüşümdeki ilk adım olacaktır. Atölye boyunca parametrik modelleme ve sayısal deformasyon teknikleri Grasshopper ile çalışılacak, biçimlendirme kompozit bir materyal üzerinde denenecektir.
