The group exhibition 2 Years 10 Meters, curated by Natalia Schmidt, opened on April 24, 2024, at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. My name was also included in the exhibition due to the projection graphics in Didem Yalınay’s artwork Intra)/value. This was another step in Didem’s long-term project.
She hated being called a “Digital Artist.” She produced wonderful works with Seçkin Maden. I was fortunate enough to accompany her as a modest collaborator on one of her pieces. Personally, the opening day of this exhibition marked a major turning point for me. It was simply a graphic animation I spent a few nights working on, attempting to represent what I understood and reflected upon from her words and ideas. To me, it was priceless to see an animation being valued, that would have otherwise lost, forgotten on a hard drive. When I saw the video footage of the exhibition, I wrote Didem a thank-you note through tears.

In our conversations, everything I shared regarding mathematics and geometry resonated with her in entirely distinct ways. We would debate at times, and then her thoughts and words would begin flowing once again. Trying to visualize the concepts she was working to articulate felt, in many respects, like an existential journey. She motivated me until the very end to finish my book, Design Mathematics with Python. I still haven’t finished it.

Those who loved her will keep her memory alive. On this blog, too, her name will live on through this beautiful piece of work. Rest in peace, Didem.
