DREAMS TO REALITIES
Istanbul Modern hosts the third part of the VitrA Contemporary Architecture Series, initiated by VitrA and the Turkish Association of Architects in Private Practice.Focusing on commercial buildings and tourism buildings in previous years, the project aims to document, debate and form a platform for further work in the field of contemporary architecture in Turkey by concentrating on different structure types.
This year’s exhibition invites the audience to think and develop dreams on education. Presenting education from the viewpoint of students at schools and apprentices learning a craft at workshops, the interactive exhibition states that the main purpose of education is to enable a person to display his or her power to change both his/her life, and environment by drawing attention to the unique value of each individual. The exhibition emphasises that this purpose can only be attained by establishing environments in which individuals desire to “be there”. This leads to the idea that great responsibility lies in forming the relationship between education and space, and that educational policies and spaces must be designed together, and in connection with each other.
The exhibition curator Şebnem Yalınay Çinici states that she departed from the following idea in designing the exhibition, which will be held at Istanbul Modern’s pop-up exhibition area: “The best kind of education is the one suspicious of itself. Not the type of education that tells a person what s/he should aim to become, but the kind that succeeds in encouraging a person to ask what he or she wants to be and enables progress along that path. By seeking and opening paths of emancipation via collaboration with space, education empowers both itself and people.”
This exhibition will also include our responsive projection work, designed together with Fulya Akipek. I’m very excited about the final installation that will open on the 13th of March.

Infections 2 Final Day

Below is the final production of the three-day workshop at Bolu İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.
