Parametric Entrance

This was my first serious Grasshopper[1] study. In 2009, I decided to attend a design contest[2] for a campus entrance. Of course, the jury didn’t know that the design resulted from a parametric model. I have called this Parametric Entrance since then. The starting point of this project was the conception of the “entrance” as a design problem related to the project area as a whole, rather than just a gate. The visual impact on the topography was achieved by the tunnel-like structure formed by a series of arches. These high-performance concrete beams’ stripes span the entrance area and shapeshift to meet several conditions such as pedestrian approach, security building, and vehicle entrance. This includes suggestions on public transportation, student shuttle stations, a bicycle park, and the green wall.

This Grasshopper definition generates the variations of the Parametric Entrance, based on the input parameters. You can control the design mostly by Graph Mappers and input curves. It is possible to explore different designs. The outputs of the definition are the 3d model of the design. The code is using native Grasshopper components. So, you don’t need extra add-ons. The initial input curves are internalized to the Curve parameters. So, you need to bake and reference them back to be able to change them.
