The series of workshops named “gridal infection”, or “infections” in short, explore the multiplicity of pattern deformation in a pedagogical context. It aims to encourage design students to manage an associative process of design, composed of short-term constructive assignments. Students are expected to develop an understanding of contemporary computational design techniques regarding a connection between abstraction and conceptualization. It reflects an open discussion of the abstract types and methods of potential infections on any pre-defined system while the geometric representation of such infection would be the design of a unique effect or force without a body of itself, understood only by a dynamic deformation on any given tessellation. This triggers the exploratory process of workshops, that at the same time require a parallel construction of a context derived from designerly interpretations of the idea of infection. The main goal of this context includes a unique design cycle that connects the two above approaches of starting points; geometry, mathematics, and parametric modeling; with the contextual background of infection, metamorphosis, and exception, eventually the idea of design computing in general.

The first workshop will be conducted at Yıldız Technical University Faculty of Architecture, within an organization of bisürü.
