Here is a short series of videos showing the basic usage of Ladybug tools in a canopy design. I prepared this for my Parametric Design Systems elective course. Students are encouraged to design their own canopies utilizing a similar workflow. I hope I’ll be able to present their works later.

Here is the abstract of my last publication in International Journal of Architectural Computing. It was a long study of Parquet Deformation for me, partially archived in this blog; Parquet Deformation is an architectural studio exercise introduced by William Huff in 1960s. It aims to improve students’ reasoning of spatiotemporal variation by utilizing sequential shapeshifting of patterns. This article examines the outcomes of this educational research from a perspective of design computing with a purpose to remark its pedagogical significance. A multilayered reading about the exercise will reveal its historical, theoretical, and artistic backgrounds. Then […]

The structure was constructed for 4th International Architecture Biennial of Antalya in 2017 and is located in Karaalioğlu Park. The architectural prototype is a wall is designed for growing and harvesting edible plants for the users of the park. In order to accommodate the voids necessary for plants to grow and have access to sunlight along with generating continuous surfaces to direct rainwater to plants, a research on minimal surfaces had been done. The final form, gyroid provided it all and had also been beneficent in the production process as […]

This year’s Computation-based Basic Design Studio finals were very successful. Below are some of our student’s design works, lanterns that light the campus area at İstanbul Bilgi University. It was a great experience for them to seek for a design system in between the domains of material computation and architectural geometry. 28 first-year students of architecture, interior design and industrial design completed their projects in groups of 4. Students: Aleyna Demirkök, Aleyna Yıldız, Ali Hayder Ali Al Obaidi, Ara Yerlikaya, Aybike Sarıgül, Ayşe Betül Yaman, Beshr Jemieh, Bilgin Eren Yıldırım, Cansu Salcı, […]

Scientific publications are expected to relate to all areas of science they sprawl. For this, the scientific publication is associated with several keywords that are thought to be related. For proper access to scientific publications in literature research, keyword assignment is as important as the publication title. This study aimed to map the usage patterns of the concepts related to the field of digital design research through keyword analysis. The questions that motivate the research, focuses on which concepts are emphasized more often, which concepts are inclusive, and on what […]

International Garden Festival in İstanbul 2016 Antalya // October 2015, Exhibition at Karaalioğlu Park Design and Prototyping: Fulya Akipek, Tuğrul Yazar, Aslı Aydın, Işıl Çokuğraş, Dilek Yürük Team of students: Alara Lüküs, Elif Soylu, İlkan Cemre Acar Consultants: Anonim İstanbul_Burcu Serdar Köknar, Hande Kalender Actually it has been nearly 2 years since we’ve designed and produced this garden.  COMMON_action_GARDENS are injected in formal park layouts built for recreation as garden structures whose aim is to support “preserve, sustain and share” philosophy and to bring people together while producing. These gardens organize […]

Introducing the new youtube channel of designcoding! Architectural Geometry playlist will contain video tutorials on several topics of basic geometry exercises for designers. Below is the introductory exercises of polyline drawing and some planar transformations such as scale and rotate. It is also an interesting plane-filling fractal you know I like very much.
